As seen here in this graph, the average precipitation and temperature rise in the summer, and fall in the winter. The average annual temperature for a Taiga is about 32°F. In the summer, it tends to be about 50°F, and in the winter it's typically 26.6°F. Annual precipitation in a Taiga reaches about 40 inches. About 10-20 inches of rain fall in the summer and about 20-40 inches of snow fall in the winter. Taiga's really only have a summer and winter, with summer spanning 6 months the year, and winter taking up the remaining 6.
Soil in the Taiga is mostly permafrost, as seen in the picture to the right. Permafrost is a subsurface layer of soil that stays frozen, making it difficult for some species of plants to grow.
Taigas have a fairly low level of biodiversity. Little to no reptiles and amphibians live here, and few mammals and birds find it fit for life. Overall, the Taiga is a chilly biome with limited species. You can find coniferous forests, rodents, moose, insects, bears, and birds.
