Primary SuccesionPriamry succesion is natural removal of nutrients in the soil and vegetation. Primary succession takes a very long time to recover. This can occur from lava flow or retreating glaciers.

Secondary SuccesionSecondary succesion is when and area is cleared of vegetation but there is still soil. examples of this are deforestation, forest fires, and earthquakes. Secondary succession occurs fairly quickly compared to Primary succession. In the taiga, secondary succession occurred after the Canadian forest fire of 1992.
